False Advertising

31Mar10

A practice which can get you into major problems is being done by hundreds if not thousands.. Food outlets and accommodation places are using the Halaal logo or even sometimes fake certificates and rekon that they are Halaal. Sadly many of us dont care to investigate further and as soon as we see or hear a place is Halaal we indulge.

The reason I bring up this topic is because I was searching the net for Halaal accommodation in South Africa the other day and came across www.aatravel.co.za – This website allows you to filter your search to find Halaal only accommodation. When i checked the Halaal accommodation listings in my City i found that many of them serve Alcohol. I then decided to phone them to confirm and out 23 establishments only 1 was Halaal the rest either served Alcohol, Pork or said that “Yes we are Halaal, We do serve fish and prawns”. (along with the alcohol and pork).

I have emailed www.aatravel.co.za to make them aware of their false advertising but obviously no one has responded. Maybe it would have a greater impact if everyone had sent them an email asking them to remove this misleading information otherwise some action will have to take place. Here is the email address info@aatravel.co.za

And for those out there looking for Halaal accommodation in South Africa visit www.stayhalaal.co.za
