Tips
While certain countries tipping is frowned upon or even regarded as rude and a Western culture other countries have made this compulsory on their customers.
Although this might be a bit off the topic of Halaal but does relate in a way i thought i’d write a little something on it.
Certain restaurant organizations in South Africa are trying to make this compulsory at 10% rather than leaving it optional. This is to the benefit of the Restaurateur and NOT the customer. Yes maybe the waiter is benefiting by the tip but that basically makes up the most part of his/her monthly earnings. I dont want to mention names and defame any such companies but they do know who they are.. Waiters/Waitresses earn a meager R300 and totally depend on the tips they receive or they earn a minimal salary and get a commision on the ammount of people they served. This is being done not by small time fast food joints but major franchise in Southern Africa.
I am 100% against this. I do feel for the people working at these stores and the right thing is that the employer should pay the employees. We should not be made responsible for it.
