e Codes
E codes are codes sometimes found on food labels in the European Union (GB, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Portugal, etc.) The code indicates an ingredient which is some type of food additive. The E indicates that it is a “European Union approved” food additive.

Now many of these ingredients contain haraam substances in it. I’ll give you a simple example to help understand.. Say you buy sweet.. The ingredients on the pack would read:
Sugar, Glucose, Honey, Chocolate, (E120) Sesame seeds.
It would seem to a normal person that the above item would be halaal because sugar, glucose, honey chocolate and sesame seeds are all halaal but the (E120) which is Cochineal, Carminic acid, Carmines [Colouring] [animal origin] which is haraam is not know. So it is our duty as muslim to know there difference between halaal and haraam and also to inform others.
I will Insha Allah compile a list of these products to make it easy for everyone to access. I have also come across this amazing java application for cell/mobile phones which list almost every E code and lots of more information concerning halaal. Should work on almost any phone. Download it here.. Halaal food guide.jar
