Alhamdulillah! The Annual General Meeting lived up to its billing, much to the appreciation of the one hundred and fifty people that gathered at the advertised venue on Sunday 17/02/08.
Attention to detail, superb facilities and a brilliant guest speaker. A spirit of camaraderie prevailed throughout and culminated in a sumptuous lunch resulted in great ambience.
We list below a few points extracted from the proceedings discussing events since the last AGM. A detailed report, AGM 2008 Report, is available from our website
Summary
1. Ulama are the spine of the organisation and its Fatwa committee deliberated on several vexing issues.
2. Darul Ihsaan organisation under Mufti Zubair Bayat filled the vacancy created by the withdrawal of the Jamiatul Ulama KwaZulu-Natal.
3. Associate membership by Muslim Jamaats and Institutes, etc. increased from 84 to 122.
4. Over 100 staff in the direct employ of SANHA.
5. 197 Applications for certification received in the period under review with 158 successful.
6. 4890 inspections carried out with 23 deviations recorded and successfully dealt with.
7. A memorandum of agreement signed with the first Halaal Science Centre in Thailand.
8. SANHA elected to 3 of the most important committees of the World Halaal Council.
9. 10 companies now certified in Pakistan. Inspections conducted by local Ulama trained and supervised by SANHA.
10. Networking, alliances and support rendered to Halaal organisations in Kenya, Reunion, Chile, Sri Lanka and neighbouring African countries.
11. Electronic newsletter now reaching over 30 000 readers world wide.
12. 3rd International Halaal Conference and participation at the Africa Big 7 Exhibition in July 2008.
13. Over 30 000 queries fielded by the Halaal Helpline in the period under review.
14. Audited Financial statements and a list of every plant certified by SANHA were presented.
Our esteemed guest speaker was Mufti Siraj Desai a graduate of Madrasah Miftahul Uloom Jalalabad, India and the Principal of the first Darul Uloom established in Port Elizabeth, Darul Uloom Abu Bakr.
